Render Distance: Objects “popping” in and out as you move around, they are distracting, annoying and unnecessary. Most notable in Unreal Engine 3 games however Battlefield 4 has an issue with it as well.

Low Polygon Counts: Graphics cards are MADE to render polygons, shader, lighting effects and post processing destroy framerates because graphics cards are not DESIGNED to do that kind of work efficiently. I'd rather have 200 fps and rounder objects than 40 fps with filters to mask the lack of polygons.

Fog: A crutch that’s used to mask low render distance and makes enemies a hundred times harder to spot thanks to the reduced contrast. It also makes games look washed out and ugly and this effect is made worse by TN panels which already have a very limited contrast range.

Colour Correction: This one isn’t ALWAYS an issue, it can be done to create nice effects, but 99% of the time it’s used to make games look washed out and ugly. Battlefield 3, COD:MW, COD:MW3 are perfect examples.

Poor Visibility: Generally accentuated by fog and colour correction but is primarily caused by having player models that are a similar colour to their surround

My opinion on first person shooter game design (Graphics)
